Castle, church, priory……Saint-Jean-de-Côle, the village that has it all!

One of the most beautiful villages in France. This utterly charming and delightful location, often mistaken for a film set, and pedestrianised in part, offers a collection of beautiful historic buildings juxtaposed around the Place Saint Jean.

XIVth century timbered housing, the imposing XVth century Marthonie castle, and
the Church of Saint John the Baptist dating from the XIIth century.  Nearby, the XIth century Augustinian priory was the location of the village’s origins.

In addition there is the old Saint Jean bridge that spans the River Côle as it meanders on down through the heart of the village. Romanesque in style, this bridge is reputed to date from the XVth century.

The Flower Show

Also renowned for over 35 years for its magnificent flower show held every year during the second weekend of May.

The Village

There are numerous restaurants all within a short strolling distance of Maison
Tournesol, catering for all tastes. The village also offers comprehensive facilities in
terms of convenience and essentials. There is a pharmacy, grocery store, post office and medical centre, as well as a plethora of small shops tucked away in the
delightfully charming back lanes.

And for those who enjoy swinging a racket, there is a tennis court available close to the Marie. Saint-Jean-de-Côle is without doubt the jewel to be discovered in the crown of the Perigord Vert!
